River Poetry     Nanook's River Poetry
What do you see in the fire?

Scooter and I relax fireside by the Machias, Maine

wraiths which round each other wind
flaring, soaring, ascending
a flame that burns deep in my mind
no beginning and no ending

a window to a distant past
when the world was young
when the dice were not yet cast
the ballads not yet sung

a glimpse of new paths not yet taken
towards a new tomorrow
when hate and evil are forsaken
a world that knows no sorrow

embers linked in scarlet lace
incandescent sinew
life and death in sweet embrace
the cycle must continue.
